Garry Dee Higgins, 67, of Morganton, NC, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2022.

He was born August 26, 1955 to the late Rev. Garland Dee Higgins and Marjorie Brooks Higgins. Garry enlisted in the US Army at the age of 18, and he served as a medic in both Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church.

Mr. Higgins is survived by a son, Jonathan Jones (Brenda); grandsons, Asher Paul Jones, Abishal Havilah Jones, and Azeriah Elias Jones; brother, Davy Higgins; sister, Shelia Reel (Billy); nephew, David Matthew Higgins; and niece, Jessica Mace (Nathan).

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Sossoman Funeral Home. Th graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 4, 2022 at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with Rev. Margaret Stump officiating. Military honors will be provided by the NC National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
