Fred Stines, 95, of Morganton, NC passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023. He was born on July 25, 1927 in Madison County, NC to the late Fuller and Bessie Stines. Fred graduated from Lee Edwards High School and was a Veteran of the US Navy. He loved people, never met a stranger and always had a funny little joke to tell. He enjoyed making wood trinkets. Fred loved to tinker with most anything and was an avid Rock Hound. He was a faithful member of the Allison’s Breakfast Club.

He is survived by his son, Harrell Stines (Connie); daughter, Karen Rockett (David); grandson, Alex Rockett (Jessica); a precious great-granddaughter, Elliana Grace, who he thought the world of (he was her “Pop Pop”); sister, Jean Stines; several nieces and nephews; and friend and caregiver who he dearly loved, Rhonda Wilson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Elizabeth Stines; and sisters, Mildred Stines, Eloise McIntosh, Lib Roberts and Winna Stines.

The family will receive friends from 1 - 2 p.m., Monday, March 13, 2023 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Eddy Bunton officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Alpine Cemetery with military honors will be provided by the US Navy.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

I have many good memories of Fred, even during nursing school. I lost my dad in 1978 and even though he lived over a hundred miles away, it didn't hurt any less. Raymond and I are very sorry for your loss. Some people say that the hurt lessens over the years........I'm not so sure.......
