Frankie Massey Thompson, 78, of Morganton went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, November 11, 2017.  She was born in West Virginia on February 1, 1939 and grew up in Avery County. She was the daughter of the late Frank Elsworth Massey and Fannie Hughes Massey.  Frankie was a member of Faith Freewill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, David H. Thompson of the home; step-daughters, Cynthia Van Donsel and husband, Jon, of Mars Hill, NC and Debra McPeters of Morganton; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, David Massey of New Jersey, Gary Massey and wife, Peggy, of Avery County, and Frank Massey and wife, Evelyn, of Morganton; sisters, Phyllis Arrowood and husband, Jim, of Holly Springs, NC and Rinda Odom of Newland; a beloved cousin, Jean Barksdale; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Frankie was preceded in death by a brother, McDonald Massey.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Faith Freewill Baptist Church.  The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. in the church with the Rev. Rocky Reece and Lt. Gary Massey, Jr. officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  At other times the family will be at the home on Causby Road.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family.

The family would like to thank the staff of Grace Heights and Burke Hospice for the loving care and support shown to Mrs. Thompson.
