Frankie "Dean" Shook, 66, of Glen Alpine, NC went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, January 20, 2011 following a 10 year illness. Born in Burke County, NC on April 11, 1944, he was the son of the late James Clayton Shook and Ruth Shook Jordan. Dean was a member of Mull’s Grove Baptist Church. He was saved and baptized in the church in 2000 by Alan Barlow. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many and a good Christian witness. Dean retired from O’Mara Texturing after 21 years of services.Dean is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mabel Earley Shook of the home; children, Thedy Bowman and husband, Hayward, Sharon Abee, Jeffrey Shook and wife, Beth, and Kristi Mode and husband, Nathan; grandchildren, Daphne Villanueva, Amber Holland, Tiffany Mode, Krislyn Huffman, Whitnie Shook, Lori Shook, Clayton Huffman, and Jonathan Mode; a great-grandson, Matthew Holland; siblings, Katherine Walker, Joe Shook, Caroline Peagler, and Wanda Berry; a number of nephews and nieces; and a great number of friends.In addition to his parents, Dean was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Ray Shook; a son-in-law, Alan Abee; a mother-in-law, Pearl Jaynes Earley; a grandmother, Ida Shook; an uncle, Burl Shook; and an aunt, Mae Shook Catstner.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, January 23, 2010 at Mull’s Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Bud Jernigan and Rev. Alan Barlow officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. At other times the family will be at Dean’s home. Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
