Frances Goins, 69, of Oak Tree Rd., Morganton, NC, died Monday, May 28, 2007 at Grace Heights Nursing Facility following a lengthy illness. Born in Burke County, NC on August 22, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Gravis Smith and Beulah Hawkins Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Kirksey Goins, and a brother-in-law, Vernon Poteat. Mrs. Goins was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She retired from Drexel Furniture with 31 years of service and then worked at J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center until she retired in January 2006. Frances enjoyed her home at the beach and cherished the time she spent there with friends and family.Frances is survived by a son, Bennie Goins and wife, Cindy of Morganton; a daughter, Susan Myers and husband, Richard of Morganton; three brothers, Earl M. Smith and wife, Bertha, Gerald Smith and wife, Gertie, and Max Carroll Smith and wife, Nola, all of Morganton; three sisters, Mattie Poteat, Edith Riles and husband, Bruce, Ruth Brittain and husband, Bart, all of Morganton; grandsons, Josh Goins, Zachary Myers and wife, Dana, and William Myers, all of Morganton; a step-grandson, Cameron Myers and wife, Amy, of Morganton; two step-great-grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, and many special friends.The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, May 31, 2007 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Larry Cline officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour. At other times the family will be at the residence, 1613 Oak Tree Rd., Morganton. Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690 or to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 2396 Enola Road, Morganton, NC 28655.
