Frances Cannon Powell

Frances Cannon Powell, 81, of Rockett St., Morganton, NC died Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at Camelot Manor Nursing Care in Granite Falls, NC following a period of declining health. She was born July 22, 1926 in Forsyth County, NC, and was a daughter of the late Kenneth Rondall Cannon and Nell Mae Bennett Cannon. Frances worked for 35 years at Drexel Furniture Plant #7, 25 years at the Holiday Inn, and 3 years at Western Piedmont Community College.She is survived by sons, Wayne Butler and wife, Joyce, of Asheville, NC, Jesse Boyd Powell and wife, Sallie Ray, of Chesapeake Bay, VA; a daughter, Linda Powell Vuncannon of Morganton; a brother, Donald Cannon of Bethlehem, NC; sisters, Laverne Atkins of Durham, NC, and Alta Cannon of Morganton; 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse James "Jim" Powell; a daughter, Virginia Powell Fox; sisters, Charlotte Smith, Cynthia Denton, and Katrida Williams; brothers, John, Bill, and Marshall Cannon; and a grandson, James Barus.Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, January 4, 2008 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Allen Bolick officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 7, 2008 in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:30 until 8:30 pm at the funeral home.
