Forrest Sam Rogers, local businessman of Morganton, NC and Fort Lauderdale, FL died Wednesday, May 1, 2013. Born in 1924 in East Jordan, MI, he was the son of the late Maggie and Samuel Rogers. He is survived by his wife Phyllis Grant Rogers; three sons, Bruce Rogers and Laura of Richmond, VA, Jack Rogers of Asheville, NC, and Rick and Kathy Rogers of Brighton, MI; three granddaughters; Elizabeth, Patricia and Jane.Sam loved his family, friends, tennis, fishing and life. His love of boating took him to many interesting ports of call.His wife is filled with gratitude for friends, Dr. Edward Plyler, and Burke County Hospice for their kindness and compassion during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690 or Community Foundation of Burke County, P.O. Box 1156, Morganton, NC 28680. A private family service will be held at a later date.
