Floyd Thomas, 81, of Morganton, NC, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2022.
Born in Moore County, NC on November 15, 1940, he was the son of the late Fred G. Thomas and Nora Shelton Thomas. Floyd was a member of Denton’s Chapel United Methodist Church where he served on various committees, taught Sunday school, and led the choir for many years. He loved his church and enjoyed singing the old hymns. Floyd loved God and his love for Jesus was contagious. He spent his life serving and helping others. Floyd retired from J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center following 35 years of service. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all.
Mr. Thomas is survived by his daughter, Arlene Childers (Bill); son, Johnafred Thomas (Gina); grandchildren, Hal Robinson (Chrisi), Katherine Thomas, and Sarah Vick (David); great-grandchild, Carter Jones; and siblings, Peggy Haywood (Richard), Elizabeth Cole, and Donald Thomas (Dorothy).
In addition to his parents, Floyd was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Ann Baker Thomas.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Sunday, May 22, 2022 at Denton’s Chapel United Methodist Church. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 22, 2022 at the church with Revs. Phillip Hefner and George Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
