Florence Scott Taylor, 101, of Morganton, and formerly of Glen Alpine, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Grace Heights. Born September 29, 1910 in Burke County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Junius Washington Scott and Laura Estelle Dale Scott. She was the oldest living member of Gibbs Chapel Wesleyan Church.Florence is survived by a sister, Carrie Fox of Glen Alpine, children, Barbara Ann Taylor Price, and Jennings Earl ?Cobb? Taylor and wife, Debbie, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Robert Price, Tim Price and wife, Connie, Donna Taylor Holland and husband, Mike, Susan Taylor Patton and husband, Jeff, and Pam Taylor Wurtz and husband, Rob; and eleven great-grandchildren.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Jennings Taylor; brothers, Robert Scott, Woodrow Scott, Jim Scott, and Frank Scott; and sisters, Pansy McDonald, Aliene Keller, Evelyn Keller, and Boot Rich.Funeral services will be held at 3:30 pm, Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Gibbs Chapel Wesleyan Church with Rev. Roger Brackett officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 until 3:30 at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690, or to Gibbs Chapel Wesleyan Church, 1741 Jamestown Rd., Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
