Florence Jeanette Poteat, 84, of Reece Rd., Drexel, NC died Sunday, January 8, 2006 at Grace Hospital following a period of declining health. She was born April 11, 1921 in McDowell County, NC, and was a daughter of the late James Gilkey Moore and Sally Seagle Moore. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Terrance Miles Poteat; a son, Dennis M. Poteat; and brothers, Floyd, Ervin, Jay, and Clarence Moore; and sisters, Pearl Elliott Queen, Georgia Elliott, and Effie Hollifield. Florence was an artist who painted with oils.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Linda Poteat, and Robert and Judy Poteat; a daughter, Nancy Holland, all of Valdese; nine grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Wednesday, January 11, 2006 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Dean Gurley officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery, Marion, NC. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 11 until 12 noon at the funeral home.
