Faye Whetstine Helms Stamey, 87, a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, went to be with her Lord, Sunday, March 6, 2016, following a period of declining health. She was born on January 30, 1929 and was the daughter of the late Frank Whetstine and Lillie Blevins Whetstine. Mrs. Stamey was a retired employee of Broughton Hospital after 38 years. She was a lifelong member of Morganton First Church of God. She was a “good and faithful servant” in her church and in her life. Mrs. Stamey loved being a greeter and giving everyone a smile and a hug as they entered on Sunday mornings. She was a prayer-warrior for her family and knew her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest gifts from the Lord. “Nana” always kept her special snacks and cold drinks for their many visits. Her gentle and quiet nature made an impression on everyone she met. Mrs. Stamey was very special and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Surviving are her son, Kenneth Wayne Helms and his wife, Pat; daughter, Effie H. Hester and her husband, Jack; stepchildren, Kenneth Stamey and his wife, Nancy, Gwendolyn S. Thompson and her husband, Kenneth, of Bladenboro, Gayle S. Ritchie and her husband, Slayton, Andrea S. Keith of Hickory and Victoria S. Price; sister, Ardith Greene of Morganton. She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren and more great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren than she could even count and loved them all dearly.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stamey was preceded in death by her husband, David of 48 years; granddaughter, Daphne Hester; brother, John Lee Whetstine; sister, Lela W. Quincy; son-in-law, Virgil Price; grandson, Eddie Price; granddaughter, Cathy Abee.

The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 pm, Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Morganton First Church of God on Summers Road. The service will be at 1:30 pm with the Rev. John McDivitt and the Rev. Don Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to Morganton First Church of God, PO Box 1404, Morganton, NC  28680.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
