Farrell "Boss" Gantt, 85, of Old NC 18, Morganton went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 17, 2010. Born February 9, 1925 in Cleveland County, NC, Boss was a son of the late Samuel Marvin Gantt and Mae Beam Gantt. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II and was stationed on the USS Vogelocsand Battleship. Boss was a faithful member of Mt. Home Baptist Church where he served as the church custodian for a number of years. He retired from Akers Motor Line, and was an avid gardener and fisherman.Boss is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mildred Davis Gantt of the home; sons, Randy Gantt of Newton, and Mike Gantt of Morganton; a daughter, Diane G. Cloninger and husband, Steve of Claremont; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Gary Gantt of Morganton and Paul Gantt of Vale; and an aunt, Kathleen Gantt of Vale.In addition to his parents, Boss was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Greene; and brothers, Beam, Bill, and Bob Gantt.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 20, 2010 at Mt. Home Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Gamble officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park with military rites conducted by the N.C. National Guard. The family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Home Baptist Church, c/o Graceful Giving Fund, 2272 Mt. Home Church Rd., Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
