Evelyn Ragan Lowman, 94, of Valdese, NC passed away on January 11, 2023. Born on October 7, 1928 in Davidson County, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Vada Ragan. Evelyn was a member at Icard’s Grove Baptist Church and was employed at Alba Waldensian for 25 years.

Ms. Lowman grew up in Thomasville, NC and was a graduate of Hasty High School in 1945. She attended business school in High Point, NC. After graduation, she married JC Buchanan and made her home in Valdese, NC. Evelyn was a loving mother and she loved flowers and her visits to the mountains. She was a fighter of life in all things and her passion was “her family”. During declining health, Trinity Ridge in Hickory, NC became her home where she made numerous friends and family.

Evelyn is survived by her children, David Michael Buchanan, Richard Eugene Buchanan, Janice Vicky Kincaid, Jerry Keith Buchanan; grandchildren, Christie Wellmon, Shane Burleson, LáNa Matthews, Stephen Buchanan, Christopher Buchanan, Samantha McCoy, Brandie Finger; 10 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn is preceded in death by her 1st husband, JC Buchanan; 2nd husband, Roland Lowman; son, Terry Lynn Buchanan; sister, Lucille Mickey; grandson, Timothy Shyler Kincaid.

The family will receive friends from 1pm until 2pm, Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Icard’s Grove Baptist Church, Connelly Springs, NC. The funeral will be held in the church at 2pm with Pastor Eldon Hinegardner officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to Icard’s Grove Baptist Church.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
