Ethel Marie Suttles, 96 of Morganton, NC passed away Sunday, August 31, 2025. Born on March 23, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary Suttles. Ethel was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where she served on many committees, volunteered and worked in the church library. She also worked at Suttles Grocery that her family ran in the late ‘70s. Ethel loved to read her books and enjoyed gardening her flowers.
Ethel is survived by her niece, Melanie Berry Byers (Terry); nephews, Scott Berry, Ricky Suttles (Pam); and a number of extended family.
In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by her sister, Juanita S. Berry (Gene); brother, Carl Suttles (Jean).
The funeral will be held at 1pm, Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at Sossoman Funeral Home with the Dr. Jack Hodges officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Ethel will truly be missed, i can remember walking down there to the store and either her or Mary would open the store for us. Melanie, you and Scott did a great job these last years taking care of her when her health started declining, but we know she's not declining any more in the presence of her Lord and savior Jesus Christ. So long my friend until we meet again.
She was a wonderful aunt! She was always in the garden, either vegetables or flowers or her nose in a book, as my grandmother used to say. She never let anything bother her or ever stressed about things that life brought, she just dealt with it and continued on, maybe that's the secret. I know our family was there to embrace you as the light guided the way! WE LOVE YOU!!!! P.S. How do you like those new knees?
