Ethel Hallyburton, 79, of Old Highway 70 Loop West, Morganton, died Sunday, October 25, 2009. She was born July 25, 1930, in Burke County, to the late William Lee McFalls and Henrietta Whisenant McFalls. Mrs Hallyburton was an active member of Mountain View #2 Baptist Church, where she had been an assistant organist and member of the choir. She had worked as a registered nurse since 1948 in several local facilities, Marion Hospital, Valdese Hospital, Britthaven, as Director of Nursing, and Broughton Hospital, from which she retired.In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hallyburton was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Abernathy Hallyburton; brothers, William and Larry McFalls; and sisters, Pansy Elizabeth Whisenant, Annie Greene, Edna Brittain, Lola Davis, and Mary Weatherman.She is survived by sons, Samuel Eugene Hallyburton and his wife, Cindy of Fredrick, MD, James Reid Hallyburton and his wife, Sandra of Lake James, and Charles Steven Hallyburton of Clemmons, NC; a daughter, Frances Hallyburton Moore and her husband, David of Martinsville, VA; sister, Ruby Setzer of Valdese; 14 grandchildren and 8 grandchildren.A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Mountain View #2 Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Mashburn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home.
