Ester Spears Farthing, 77, of Morganton, NC, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, March 14, 2024.

Born in Baltimore, MD on August 2, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Clifton Dewey Spears and Rosie Watson Spears.

Ester was a member of Son Light Baptist Church where she loved to sing hymns. She retired from Cajah Mountain Hosiery Mills and enjoyed cross stitch, quilting, reading, playing Rummy, and spending time with friends and family.

Ester is survived by her daughters, Awanda Webb (Rev. Michael) and Kimberly Conner; step-sons, Marty Farthing and Jackey Farthing; grandchildren, Jessica Tucker (John), Brittany Wooten, and Heather Wooten; three step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Haylee and Bryson Tucker and Aiden, Cameron, and Cloe Epley; numerous step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nelle Fulbright.

In addition to her parents, Ester was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence E. Farthing; and a step-daughter, Marlyn Wooten.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, March 17, 2024 at Son Light Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. in the church with Rev. Michael Webb officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Esther was our neighbor for 10 to 12 years and she was an amazing person always laughing when we were around her. She always seemed to be so kind to me and Maria and we really miss the whole family and her and it's so sad that this happened but I'm happy for her because she's in the arms of Jesus.
