Estelene Murphy Rogers, 97, slipped away peacefully Sunday, September 26, 2010 surrounded by her family following a brief illness. Mrs. Rogers was born in Wood County, Wisconsin on March 19, 1913 and was a daughter of the late Thomas Leroy Murphy and Luella Caroline Jaeckel Murphy. Estelene was a homemaker, and she enjoyed sewing and flower gardening. An avid reader, she read her Bible daily and was a member of First Presbyterian Church.Surviving are a son, Thomas Rogers and his wife, Sue, of Morganton; a daughter, Kathy Matthews and her husband, Ed, of Dunn, NC; grandchildren, Patricia Acuff, Tina Rogers, Tommy Matthews, and Eddie Matthews; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Althea Mielke of Wisconsin.In addition to her parents, Estelene was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Elmer F. Rogers, and by a sister, Arnelda M. Frankwick.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 29, 2010, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Darvy Hensley officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690.
