Essie Faye Witcher, 93, of Morganton passed away Sunday, March 8, 2015 after a period of declining health.  Born in Burke County, NC on June 3, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Lindsay Chester and Essie Mae Lingle Hatley Chester.  Essie retired from General Motors in Michigan and then moved back to Morganton.  She lived at home until her health began to fail.

Mrs. Witcher is survived by a sister, Sue Fruitticher of Morganton; three brothers, Albert Chester of Grosse Pointe, MI, Howard Chester of Newland, NC, and Ronald Chester of Morganton; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to her parents, Essie was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Jack Witcher (1995); five sisters, Ruth Curtis, Virginia Williamson, Florence Penley, Bertha Price, and Lucille Isaac; four brothers, Roy, Carl, Maynard, and Billy Eugene Chester; a baby sister; and two baby brothers.

The funeral will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2015 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with the Rev. Michael Costner officiating.  Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until noon prior to the service.
