Escar H. Halford passed away Thursday, July 6, 2023 at the age of 88. Born May 8, 1935, he was the son of the late Albert H. Halford and Mary Lou Frady Halford. Escar was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Juanita Queen Halford; siblings, Meredith Horner, Charles Halford, and Lois Seagle, as well as his stepmother, Melba T. Halford.

He is survived by his children, Donna Halford Stroud and James Halford and wife, Amy; grandchildren, Lauren H. Church (Jake) and Garrett Halford (Kinsley Michaels); and several nieces and nephews.

Escar served in the United States Army from 1959-1961.

He enjoyed farming, especially operating tractors and equipment. Whether planting, making hay, cutting silage or running a combine, many hours were spent on a tractor. Known among farmers as the “Baler Man”, he retired from Marion Equipment Company where he assembled, delivered, and repaired farming equipment for many years.

The family would like to express appreciation to Christina Biggerstaff at Appalachian Medical-Health and Wellness, Enhabit Home Health from Marion, and the compassionate staff at Amorem in Hudson, NC.

Memorial contributions may be made to Amorem, 902 Kirkwood Sr. NW, Lenoir, NC 28645.
