Elva Carswell Digh, 87, of Morganton, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 1, 2015.

Born in Burke County on April 21, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Andrew Carswell and Mary Rotis Poteet Carswell.  She was a life-long member of Burkemont Baptist Church. 

Elva was a seamstress who worked over 25 years and retired from Shadowline Inc.  She loved music and played the piano for the Burkemont Senior Adult assembly for many years.  She and Bill loved to cruise and travel and took several trips abroad making many friends along the way. 

A loving wife and mother, Elva is survived by her husband, William Digh, Sr.; children, Patricia Burnette (Harold) and William Digh, Jr. (Anita); 3 grandchildren (Lance, Travis, Kristen); 7 great grandchildren (Tyler, Will, Evan, Devyn, Tristan, Avery, Journey); brothers, Pee Wee and Gray Carswell; and sister, Bertina Seagle.

In addition to her parents, Elva was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles Jr., Leonard, Nun and J.D. Carswell; her sisters Azalie Brittain and Mary Etta Pittillo; and grandson Nathan Digh.

The family will greet friends from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM, Friday, April 3 at Burkemont Baptist Church.  A service to celebrate Elva’s life will be held at 2:00 PM in the sanctuary.  Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the Burkemont Baptist pastors, Care Ministry, the staff of Burke Hospice and to special friends Allen and Linda Calhoun.
