Ellis R. Carswell, 92, of Morganton, NC passed away Saturday, August 8, 2015. Born in Lincoln County, NC on October 13, 1922, he was the son of the late Charlie M. Carswell and Carrie Mae Chapman Carswell. Ellis was of the Baptist faith and had worked as a mechanic, a sawmill worker, and a timber cutter. He was a giving person who loved his dog and deeply loved his family.
Ellis is survived by his son, Gary Swink of Chesnee, SC; a daughter, Sharon Curtis of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Jaime Swink Cooley and her husband, Jordan, Gabrielle Nicole Swink, Kim Foutz, and Tera Curtis; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Cooley, Alyiah Cooley, Zac Foutz, and Aidan Foutz; siblings, Susie Arrowood of Morganton, Florence Carswell of Morganton, Beatrice Shepherd of Hickory, NC, and Claude Carswell of Morganton; and a number of nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, Ellis was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Swink Carswell; two infant sons; a brother, William Carswell; and two sisters, Bertie Mae Causby and Lula Greene.
The graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at Carswell Family Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Hudson officiating. The family will greet friends in the cemetery following the service.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
