Ellen Ruth Hardin, 90, of Morganton, NC passed away on Friday, September 25, 2026. She was born on November 13, 1935 in Burke County to the late Ben Brackett and Nettie Flynn Brackett. She was a longtime member of Morganton Seventh Day Adventist Church. Ellen loved to cook for her family and she enjoyed being outside, especially walking around her home. She loved her dog, Sadie.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Junior Hardin; daughters, Peggy York, Trina Hardin Curtis, Holly R. Hardin; siblings, Clyde Brackett, Fons Brackett, Edna Manz, Edith Maples, Margie Brown, Blanche Serra and Clara Andrews.
Ellen is survived by her daughter, Arty Hensley (Bobby); three grandsons and three granddaughters; sons-in-law, Nick Curtis and Jimmy York; and multiple great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3pm, Saturday, October 10, 2026 at Morganton Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Best mother in law a man could have. Very smart lady who loved Jesus Christ.
I am so sorry to hear about Mrs. Hardin. When I saw her smiling face, I remembered her from church. My parent's, George and Kay Rakestraw attended the same church. I remember we sat close to her and her husband. Daddy and Mom thought she was the sweetest lady. When we sat down, she would tap Daddy on the shoulder and passed him some candy to give us. Daddy would tell us that she gave the candy to just him. They would laugh and smile. Please, think about her smile when we get sad. That's what she would want us to do, pass on a smile to who ever we meet. I love ❤️ you all and may God continue to strengthen you. Granny, you will be missed, but your main squeeze, Junior, will be waiting for you when you arrive in heaven. You will see your family again. God Bless you.
My Mercy how I cherished our friendship. You are such a lovely lady. Heaven surly gained a precious soul. Until we meet again, keep everyone in the straight and narrow. Love to all of the family who will miss you terribly. 🌹
