Ella Smith Mull passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 23, 2025. Ella was born in Morganton, North Carolina, on November 14, 1947 to the late Herbert Eugene Smith and Florence Buchanan Smith. She was a 1966 graduate of Salem High School and was employed by Drexel Heritage Furnishings in the Accounts Payable Department for over forty years.

Ella is survived by her husband of 56 years, George, and her son, Clint and sister, Gale Eller. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, William E. Smith.

Ella enjoyed her years of retirement caring for her family of pets. Ella also fed and cared for the wildlife around her home and enjoyed watching them from her window. She always loved animals her whole life and is survived by her three cats (Casey, Tommie, and Chance) and her dog (Rusty).

George appreciates everyone's prayers and acts of kindness but is requesting privacy at this time.

No services are planned at this time. A memorial will be scheduled at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Burke County to honor her lifetime love of animals.

Gale may be contacted by cell or by Facebook Messenger.

The family would also like to give their thanks to Amorem Hospice Services for their assistance at this time and the staff of UNC Blue Ridge Morganton for all they did for her during her stay.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

To Ella's family, my deepest sympathy. I worked with Ella for many years in the AP dept. @ Drexel Heritage. She was great at her job as an auditor, a wonderful co-worker and friend. Regretfully, we had lost touch over the last few years as with many of my DH co-workers. Ella was always a joy to work with and joke around with while at work. She will be missed by many I'm sure. I will miss her. Prayers for your peace & comfort during this most difficult time. Cherish those precious and wonderful memories as I will also. Vanessa Clontz
