Elizabeth Gail Johnson, 79, of Morganton, NC died Sunday, December 13, 2015. Born in Caldwell County, NC on March 31, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Roland Hamrick Greene and Johnsie Link Greene. Elizabeth was a member of Mountain View #2 Baptist Church. She loved life very much and was an avid gardener.
Elizabeth is survived by her son, Dean Allen Handy of Morganton, NC; a daughter, Barbara Ann Handy Blackwell and her husband, Rob, of Morganton, NC; grandchildren, Christina Nicole Stogner and Melissa Handy Bryant; five great-grandchildren; a brother, William Larry Greene of Newton, NC; a sister, Mary Joan Robbins of Lenoir; and her loving canine companion, Popcorn.
In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her daughters, Lori Lynn Gilbert and Susan Carol Handy; sisters, Kay Hope Brown and Sherry Jane Jones; and brothers, Bobby Kent Greene and Roland Billy Greene.
The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Mountain View #2 Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Mashburn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times the family will be at the home.
