Elisabeth “Lib” Loftis of Morganton, NC died Tuesday, August 16, 2016.  Born in Jacksonville, FL, she was the daughter of the late Victor Harley Futrell and Meta Howard Futrell.  After the death of her parents, Lib and her siblings lived  with her aunt and uncle in Statesboro, GA.  Lib was an active member of First Baptist Church where she taught the Fidelis Sunday School Class and was a former teacher of the young adult Sunday school class.  Mrs. Loftis  was an avid bridge player and a long-time member of the Study Book Club.

Lib is survived by her son, W. R. “Randy” Loftis, Jr. and his wife, Lea, of Winston-Salem, NC; grandchildren, Allison Lane, W. R. Loftis, III, Eli Lang Brown, and Dana Lang Stallings; great-grandchildren, Sean Loftis, Liam Loftis, Quinn Stallings, Georgia Grace Stallings, John Parker Brown, and Mason Brown; and nieces, Louise Rice and Kathy Zagoria.

In addition to her parents, Lib was preceded in death by her husband, William “Randolph” Loftis; a brother, Carleton; and a sister, Lucille.

The family will receive friends from 2 – 3 p.m., Sunday, August 21, 2016 in the parlor of First Baptist Church.  The memorial service will follow in the sanctuary of the church at 3 p.m. with Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr. and Rev. Fred Schuszler officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 459, Morganton, NC 28680 or to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.

The family would like to thank Lib’s devoted caregivers and the staff of Burke Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to Mrs. Loftis.  They would also like to express their appreciation to Betty and Ray Finley and Bruce Pearson for the many years of service they provided.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
