Elene Anthony Brendel passed from this life into eternity Monday, April 02, 2018.  She was born in Lincoln County in 1924 to the late Marcus F. Anthony and Mary Jane Workman Anthony.  Mrs. Brendel’s great love for children made her a wonderful teacher’s assistant for the Burke County Public Schools before retirement. She was a member of Zion Memorial United Methodist Church.  Mrs. Brendel was preceded in death by husband, Garnie L. Brendel, grandson, Andy Brendel, and seven brothers and three sisters.  Her one surviving brother is Marcus F. Anthony of High Point.  Her children are Leonard Brendel (Charlotte), Philip Brendel, Tommy Brendel, and Deborah Hefner (Jerry).  Grandchildren are Nathan Hefner, Heather Hefner Dellinger (Scott), Stephanie Brendel Hatley (Brian), and Tony Brendel.  Great-grandchildren are:  Cory Hefner, Hugh Dellinger, and Cadence and Noah Hatley.

The funeral service for Mrs. Brendel will be Thursday, April 5, 11 a.m., at Zion Memorial United Methodist Church.  Revs. George Williams and Jon McDivitt will officiate.  The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. prior to the service.  Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Park with Rev. Charlotte Brendel officiating.
