Elaine Rector Barrier

Elaine Rector Barrier, 54, of Newland, NC went to her heavenly home to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and to see her daddy again, as well as a brother she never met, on Wednesday, September 15, 2010. She battled bad health for six years and always took it with a smile and appreciated everything that was done for her. Born in Burke County, NC on June 19, 1956, she was the daughter of Geraldine Woody Rector and the late William Alexander Rector, Jr. Elaine graduated from Gardner Webb College in 1978 with a degree in religious education. She was of the Baptist Faith.In addition to her mother, Elaine is survived by her son, Ronnie James Barrier, Jr. of Weaverville, NC; a sister, Rebecca Rector Mace of Morganton, NC; nephews, Caleb Mace and wife, Rosemarie, and Joshua Mace and wife, Jayne, both of Morganton; a special friend, J. D. Sigmon of Claremont, NC; uncles, Shelton Woody and wife, Belinda, of Valdese, NC and Lynn Woody and wife, Peggy, of Greensboro, NC; aunts, Jean Eppley and husband, Wayne, of Gastonia, NC and Delores Rector and her late husband, Cecil, of Valdese; and many friends at Heritage of Sugar Mountain in Newland.In addition to her father, Elaine was preceded in death by a brother, Rondal Rector; her maternal grandparents, Rassie and Ocie Woody; and her paternal grandparents, Will and Maggie Rector.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Mt. Home Baptist Church with Reverends Jerry Gamble and Tito Madrazo officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday evening at Sossoman Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour. At other times the family will be at the residence of her sister, Rebecca Mace on Hwy 18 South. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 222 S.
