Edward Wayne “Big Ed” Walker, 59, of Valdese, NC died Tuesday, December 1, 2015. Born in Burke County, NC on October 18, 1956, he was the son of the late Joseph Edward Walker and Vernie Richard Walker Watson.
Edward was a faithful member of Enon Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of Catawba Valley Masonic Lodge #217. He had enjoyed many years of worked employed at Broughton Hospital. He had also served as a reserve officer for the Burke County Sheriff’s Dept. and ABC Board.
Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Sheila Hawks Walker of the home; a number of cousins; his parents-in-law, Thomas and Evelyn Hawks; a brother-in-law, David Hawks and his wife, JoAnn; and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, December 4, 2015 at Enon Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Garner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Masonic rites will be performed by the Catawba Valley Masonic Lodge #217.
