On Thursday, February 3, 2022, our beloved Edward Dale Wagner passed away after a brief illness.

Dale, known to many as PawPaw, was born in Davidson County in 1937 to William Monroe Wagner and Ruth Whitlow Wagner.

Dale made a difference in the lives of everyone that he met. He and his son, Michael "Mike" Wagner were co-owners of Foothills Bodyworks, Inc., and as the saying goes, he never met a stranger. As a devout Christian, he sang hymns wherever he went, preached the gospel according to God's word, and lived a full life with his wife Janice. Dale and Janice were both members of the Morganton Church of Christ. They met in high school and according to her, "he was the smartest guy in the class." Dale celebrated his 84th birthday in November and 65th wedding anniversary this past December. Until his recent illness, he continued to go to work every day, although he may have spent more time socializing than actually working. The door was always open for visitors, and PawPaw looked forward to visits from friends. Sundays when his daughter Teresa, son Mike, and grandchildren stopped by he always lit up.

Dale was one witty and hilarious Christian man who will be missed deeply, but his family rejoices as they know he was simply called home.

PawPaw leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 65 years, Janice L. Wagner; two children: Teresa W. Kirksey (Lee) and Michael "Mike" Dale Wagner; four grandchildren: Zachary B. Wagner (Katie), Heather A. Valentine, Miles T. Kirksey, and Megan L. House (Justin); and three great grandchildren: Phoenix Wagner, Blake Wagner, and Brynlee House; also, two sisters: Jane Baity (Ray) and Elizabeth "Libby" Wagner; and one brother: Keith Wagner (Shelley). He was preceded in death by brother, William Raeford Wagner.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at 12:30, at the Morganton Church of Christ at 404 Lenoir Road, Morganton, NC 28655, with Jeff Lovitt officiating.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in Dale's memory are asked to consider a donation to the Morganton Church of Christ.

Sossoman Funeral Service & Crematory is assisting the Wagner family.
