Edward D. "Eddie" Picklesimer, 72, of Morganton, NC died Monday, April 25, 2011. Born in Kanawha County, WV on August 23, 1938, he was the son of the late Edward Jackson Picklesimer and Mildred Dale Arthur Picklesimer. Eddie was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He graduated from high school in Pikeville, Ky and received his bachelors and masters degrees from Morehead State University.He was employed by Philco and traveled the world installing satellite dishes on U.S. military bases. Eddie moved to Morganton in 1976 and worked as a juvenile counselor. He was employed as a criminal justice instructor at Western Piedmont Community College. In 2004 he retired as a training officer from the Burke/Catawba District Confinement.Eddie was an avid reader and loved to camp and fish. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved watching his grandsons wrestle at Table Rock Middle School and Freedom High School.Eddie is survived by his wife of 32 years, Evelyn Poteat Picklesimer of the home; children, Elizabeth Panepinto and husband, Dan, of Sarasota, FL, David Picklesimer of KY, Wayne Deal and wife, Nikki, of Morganton, and Jayna Miller and husband, Jason, of Morganton; grandchildren, Trever Miller, Logan Miller, Karlee Deal, Colby Miller, and Kennedy Deal; and a brother, Greg A. Picklesimer and wife, Jeannie, of Greer, SC.In addition to his parents, Eddie was preceded in death by a grandson, Jackson Deal.A celebration of Eddie’s life will be held at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, April 28, 2011 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with Rev. Dennis Carswell officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fraternal Order of Police, Morganton Lodge #23, P.O. Box 1216, Morganton, NC 28680 or to a charity of one’s choice.
