Dwight Stanley “Stan” Jenkins, 80, of Connelly Springs, NC, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2022.

Born in Burke County, NC on September 5, 1942, he was the son of the late Tom Jenkins and Pauline Farris Jenkins.

Stan worked in several careers.  He was a supervisor for Ford Motor Company, a detective for the Burke County Sherriff’s Office under Jerry Richards, and in 1980 he started his own business, Jenkins Construction Company and Log Home.  He built many beautiful log homes in Burke and surrounding counties.  Stan’s company also built a recording studio on Roy Acuff Blvd. in Nashville called The Music Mill.  It served the producers of Alabama and other various artists.  His company built and donated the concession stand for George Hildebran Elementary School.  In 1986 Mr. Jenkins won two awards for his service to the community: Burke Best Volunteer Award and the Governor’s Award from Gov. Jim Martin.

Stan was a kind, generous man who would help anyone in need.  He was a prankster who was also trustworthy to a fault.  Mr. Jenkins enjoyed working around his home and gardening, providing fresh vegetables to his neighbors and family for many years.

Stan was also a great friend and dedicated family man.  He never missed practice or games of his children and grandchildren, and he was always their greatest fan.

A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Jenkins is survived by his wife,, Merita Jenkins; children, Nathan Smith (Ashley), Wendy Pollard (Byron), Tommy Jenkins, and Rose Jenkins; grandchildren, Maci Pollard, Sydney Smith, Weston Smith, Kyle Jenkins (Heather), Maddie Jenkins, Warren Jenkins, Derrick Jenkins, and Joseph Jenkins; great-grandchild, Jaxon Jenkins; sisters, Rachel Jenkins and Janice Rhoney; brothers, Randy and Steve Jenkins; and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to his parents, Stan was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Roper; and brother, Jerry Jenkins.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Monday, November 7, 2022 at Sossoman Funeral Home.

The family would like to express their appreciation to all the people who sent well-wishes, prayers, and support, and especially to Stan’s sister-in-law, Juanita Carswell, for her unwavering support.

Memorial contributions may be made to Foothills Service Projects, P.O. Box 86, Rutherford College, NC 28671.  Foothills Service Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit Christian home repair ministry established for the purpose of assisting persons in Burke and surrounding counties to make homes dry, safe, warm, and accessible.  Our project is committed to honoring the God-given dignity and value of all people, regardless of race, color or creed.  We intend to promote the physical, and the spiritual health of all those who need help but are lacking knowledge or physical ability to help themselves with emphasis on assisting the older adult population.  Our ministry is possible only because of the many caring people willing to help others in need.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
