Dr. James Morris Croft, 87, of Morganton went to his heavenly home on Sunday, October 17, 2021.  Born in Glynn County, GA on September 3, 1934, he was the son of the late James and Velma Croft.  Dr. Croft was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.

He attended Florida State University and graduated from the Medical College of Augusta.  He served as a lieutenant in the US Navy.  Dr. Croft was a devoted family physician in Morganton for over 50 years and was recognized for his service by the American Medical Association.  He was a distinguished Burke County resident who was active in the community and served on many boards over the years.  Dr. Croft enjoyed buying and raising horses.

Dr. Croft is survived by his wife, Vivian Wingate Croft; daughters, Stacy Croft and Dana Croft; step-children; David Brown, Jr. and Leslie Brown; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Dr. Croft was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Friday, October 22, 2021 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Elder Ted Brackett officiating.  Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the US Navy.
