Dottie Ann spent the majority of her adult life in Charlotte where she raised her three sons and had many friends. After moving to Morganton, she became a member of North Morganton United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Wake Up Café Sunday School Class and enjoyed the church coffee club. She loved the Lord and her church, where she found a family. Dottie Ann was well known for her Halloween House and its decorations. She was a positive, encouraging person who loved life and had a great sense of humor. She always looked for the best in everyone. Dottie Ann loved the beach, sitting in the rocking chair on her porch, and playing Bridge, and she was loved by many friends.

She is survived by her sons, Jay Johnston (Julie), Richard Johnston, and Eric Johnston; grandson, Noah Johnston; siblings, Hank Williams (Sara), Grace Hartley, and Richard Williams (Melissa); and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Dottie Ann was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Gary Hartley; and precious dog, Thomas.

My sincere condolences to Dot's family. She was a wonderful and special lady with a friendly smile and bubbly personality. I think she was instantly liked by everyone who met her. We didn't work directly together, but we did become friends. We met because Swimmer Insurance insured the Shoe Show stores and I worked at their corporate office. I've kept in touch over the years by phone, texts and sending numerous cards. I'm so sad to think she's gone now and I will miss her. My thoughts and prayers to her family.

My condolences to the family. I can't tell you how much Miss Dot meant to my husband, Drew. He loved her deeply and she was always so kind to me as if she had know me forever. Heaven has gained a special angel.

I am very sorry for the loss of your mother. She was a great lady! She always treated me like family. My mom was pregnant with me and your mom was pregnant with Jay at the same time. Our mothers were once best friends. My prayer is that the Holy Spirit gives you comfort during these difficult times.
