Dorothy (Dot) Long Franklin, 82, of Morganton passed from her earthly life to eternal life on Tuesday November 14, 2017 following several years of declining health.

Born January 7, 1935 in Valdese, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Oscar S. Long and Pearl Moretz Long. Dot was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church since 1952 when her Dad became pastor there. During her time as a member there she was a children’s Sunday school teacher and held backyard bible schools. She could always be counted on to help out in the kitchen. Dot’s parents moved on from the Hopewell community but left Dot there where she had met the love of her life, Jink Franklin. They were married April 14, 1956. Dot was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, maw and friend who always had an open heart for others and was willing to help anyone. Dot had a passion for cooking and baking. Many in Morganton have enjoyed sitting down to a meal or had a piece of cake with the Franklins. Dot had a few jobs throughout her life but cooking was her favorite. She turned that into many catering jobs throughout the years. Perhaps the most trying and difficult of her declining health was not having the energy to cook and bake as she so loved to do.

Dot is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Jink; two daughters Julie Ackley of Sanford, FL and Becky Kincaid (Bradley) of Morganton; grandchildren, Spencer Ackley (Jessie) of Sanford, FL and Landon Kincaid of Laurinburg, NC; and great-grandson Mason Ackley. She is also survived by sister-in-law Juanita Long and brothers Charles Long (Tamara) of Burlington, NC and Dave Long (Sue) of Weaverville, NC. She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews as well. She was preceded in death by her brother Norman Long and by Margaret and James Williams or as they were lovingly known as Mimi and Dad-o.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Hopewell Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Emory officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to the cemetery fund of Hopewell Baptist Church, 1112 Hopewell Rd, Morganton, NC 28655.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
