It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy Whisnant, beloved grandmother, mother, and friend, who left us at the age of 86. Dorothy was one of eleven children born to Theodore and Stella Anderson. Known affectionately as Maw-Maw, standing at just five feet tall, she was a true force to be reckoned with and embodied a spirit as strong as concrete.
Dorothy had a passion for gardening that bloomed as vibrantly as the flowers she tended to. Her love for family was immeasurable, and she cherished every moment spent with her loved ones.
Affectionately dubbed by some as "Spicy Maw-Maw", her indomitable spirit and fierce love will be remembered fondly by her family and friends.
As we honor her memory, we celebrate the remarkable life she led and the joy she brought into our lives. Dorothy Whisnant will be deeply missed but forever cherished in our hearts.
In addition to her siblings, Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Terri Carlton;
Grandchildren: Derek Branch (Marisa), Brandi Branch, Mason Carlton and Jessy Piercy (Josh);
Great-grandchildren: Noah Branch, Dalton Woody, Connor Branch, Rylan Carlton and Jaden Piercy.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Frank Wilbur Whisnant and daughter Julie English.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank Dorothy's dedicated and loving caregiver, Kristin Gath.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
