Doris Lee Sims Smith, 86, of Morganton died Wednesday, January 1, 2020. Born in Burke County, NC on September 30, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Jeff Sims and Laura Jane Berry Smith. Doris was a member of Cross Memorial Baptist Church.
She is survived by her sons, Tony Smith (Linda) and Lonnie Ray Smith (Casha); daughter-in-law, Ann Smith; grandchildren, Jimmy Smith, Terra Smith, April Mayfield, and Tonya Dowdle; great-grandchildren, Paxton Williams, Savannah Smith, Fletcher Smith, Jacob Mayfield, Landray Harris, Jared Dowdle, and Avery Dowdle; great-great-grandchildren, Hayden Mayfield and Lindsay Mayfield; brother, Ned Sims; sister-in-law, Joann Powell; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Sterling E. “Bill” Smith; son, Eddie “Babe” Smith; and siblings, Ernestine Alexander, Margaret Manning, Ruby Jablonski, Marie Riddle, Bud Sims, and Cole Edwin Sims.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, January 5, 2020 at Cross Memorial Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. in the church with Dr. Jeffrey Beach officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.
