Doris Benfield Franklin, 92, of Connelly Springs, NC, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, May 17, 2025 after a period of declining health.
Born in Burke County, NC on May 5, 1933, she was the daughter of the late John Benfield and Fannie Mincey Benfield. Doris was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who dearly loved her family. She retired from Carolina Shoe after thirty-six years and enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, reading, and doing anything outside. She most enjoyed spending time with her family.
Doris is survived by her sons, Wayne Franklin and Donald Franklin (Barbara); grandchildren, Gene Benfield, Billy Franklin (Leslie), Kelly Franklin, Brian Franklin, Donna Franklin (Joshua Suggs), and Timothy Blankenship; and numerous great-grandchildren and extended family.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Curtis Franklin; daughters, Janice Blankenship and Barbara Hudson; grandson, Shannon Franklin; granddaughter, Chelsea Lester; and ten siblings.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, May 23, 2025 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The graveside service will be held at noon at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
