Donald Lee Duckworth, 68, of Morganton, NC went to his Heavenly home on Saturday, January 23, 2016 after a year-long battle with cancer.  Born in Burke County, NC on November 16, 1947, he was the son of the late James “Bud” Duckworth, Sr. and Blanche Chapman Duckworth.  Donald was a member of Burkemont Baptist Church.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had worked at several local textile plants as an engineer.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Mr. Duckworth is survived by his wife of 30 years, Deborah Winters Duckworth of the home; a daughter, Amanda, of Morganton and her daughter, Alexa; a step-son, Chris Messick and his fiancée, Nicole, of Morganton, and their children, Isabella and Jacob; a brother, James “Jolly” Duckworth, Jr. of Morganton; a sister, Sharon Fowler and her special friend, Albert, of Morganton; a number of nephews and nieces; and his canine companion, Sadie.

The family will receive friends from 1 – 2:30 p.m., Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Burkemont Baptist Church.  The funeral will be held at the church at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Eddy Bunton and Dr. David Mills officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
