Donald “Don” Wayne Benfield, Sr., 71, of Morganton died Sunday, May 13, 2018 after a period of declining health. Born in Burke County, NC on August 3, 1946, he was the son of the late Roland Eugene Powell and Ruby Elizabeth Benfield. Don retired from Henredon and was a member of Mountain View #1 Baptist Church. He was active in Word of Faith Ministries and North Laurel Baptist Church.
Mr. Benfield is survived by his children, Donnie Wayne (Sandra) Benfield, Jr. of Morganton, Douglas Eugene (Jenny) Benfield of Morganton, Davina Benfield (Ray) Evans of Morganton, and Christopher Stephen (Jessica) Benfield of Rhodhiss; step-son, Hoyt Paul (Teresa) Brittain of Vale; 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Carolyn Benfield (Bill) Waycaster of Kingsport, TN; and special friends, Cynthia Kirkpatrick, Dewitt Prince, Kevin and Marcia Rhodes; and Douglas MacDonald.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald “Toby” Eugene Benfield.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Zion Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. in the church with the Revs. Mike Wakefield and Keith Rose officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to North Laurel Baptist Church, Zion Baptist Church, a rare disease charity of your choice, or to Word of Faith Ministry.
