Donald Andrew Clarke, 84, of Morganton, NC went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Burke Palliative Care.  Born on August 26, 1933 in Burke County, he was a son of the late Julius Jennings “Jay Jay” Clarke and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Arney Clarke.

Mr. Clarke was a veteran of the United States Army where he was a combat medic attached to Special Forces.  He was a life member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church and American Legion.  Mr. Clarke graduated from the University of Alaska.  After twenty-six years of service, Mr. Clarke retired from North Carolina School for the Deaf.  He continued his career by teaching continued education at Western Piedmont Community College and working at Morganton Parks and Recreation.  He coached basketball at NCSD and baseball at Morganton Recreation.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Clarke was preceded in death by brothers, Durward and Harold Clarke; and son, Darren Clarke.

Those left to cherish Mr. Clarke’s memory are his wife, Elizabeth Hoyle Clarke; daughters, Dawn Clarke Hutchins and Deanna Clarke Wise both of Morganton; grandchildren, Destiney Conway and husband, Jonathan, Dylan Bollinger, Michael Wise, Dustin Wise, and Sierra Clarke.  Also surviving are step-children, Elizabeth Kaltenbach and husband, Jim and Daniel McLean, IV and wife, Candace; step-grandchildren, Daniel, Zachary, and Shayla-Grace; and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church with Rev. Brad Thompson and Rev. Billy Chapman officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by North Carolina National Guard and Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
