Delores Jean Young Curfman, 93, of Morganton, NC died Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
Born in Bedford, PA on March 16, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Frank Storey Young and Edna Viola Dean Young. Delores married Carl Curfman in Saltillo, Pennsylvania on July 18, 1954.
Delores’ life was about family-not just her immediate family but all the people she treated like family. When her husband went from being a farmer to a pastor, they came to her for her caring, her wisdom and her kindness. While he was teaching at Bible School, many of the students became her children and she gave them love and cookies. Delores was very artistic, she crocheted, embroidered, quilted, and sewed. She loved baking cookies and cakes for family and friends. She loved color, flowers in her garden, butterflies and hummingbirds. Most of all she loved babies.
Delores is survived by her children Patricia Ballas (Denny), Carl Curfman, Jr., Ruth Curfman, Dean Curfman (Lynn), Dennis Curfman (Kathy), Pete Curfman (Chris), and Donna Fleeger (Donald); grandchildren, Jessica Forrey, Julia Ballas, Jennifer Curfman, Billy Howel, Sam Curfman, Shane Curfman, Daniel Curfman and Donnie Fleeger; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Audrey, and Addison Thuemmler, Yory Davis, Ava and Ty Forrey, Katerine and Sophia Bowen, Cole Smith, Harper Curfman, and Mia, Chance, and Scout Curfman; sister JoAnn March; special extended family members-Sue and Steve Greenhill and their children Sara, Emily and Clair and Petrona, Soledad, and Jose Angel Marcos and Jessica Martin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
In addition to her parents, Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Curfman; and sixteen siblings: Lewis Young, Marie Simmers, Ralph Young, Helen Calhoun, Dottie Dixon, David Young, Madolynne Medek, Cloyd Young, Frank James Young, Anna Fleck, Florence McCoy, Russell Young, Donald Young, Lester Young, Jack Young, and Sarah Barnett.
A Celebration of the life of Delores will be held in Pennsylvania later this year.
