David Victor Ewert, 71 of Morganton, NC died Friday, December 21, 2012. Born September 10, 1941 in Buffalo, NY, he was a son of the late John and Lucille Ewert. He was a U. S. Navy veteran and was an active member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. David was an avid hunter and enjoyed woodworking in his shop. His family, grandchildren, and dogs, Rusty and Meeko, and cats, Smokey and Jude were the love of his life.Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of thirty-eight years, Debbie Donnelly Ewert of the home; children, Justin Ewert and his wife, Jessica of Charlotte and Annette Ewert and her fiancé, Melvin Lane of Stokes, NC; grandchildren, Maddox and Bennett Ewert; a brother, Daniel Ewert of Arizona; a sister, Mary Lou Hanaka and her husband, Michael of Wellsville, NY; and a number of nephews and nieces.A funeral Mass will be offered at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with Fr. Kenneth Whittington officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 728 W. Union Street, Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home & Crematory Center has the honor of serving the Ewert family.
