David S. Anderson, 87, of Pete Brittain Road, Morganton, NC went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at Grace Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Kato, PA on January 20, 1922, he was the son of the late Axel Anderson and Mary Jane Miller Anderson.David was raised in the Lutheran Faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, having served in the European Theatre. After the war David worked as a coal miner in Pennsylvania. He later moved to Mansfield, OH where he worked for the Alexander Vault Company, which was the first Wilbert Vault Distributor in the United States. In the early 70s David moved to Morganton, NC and worked for Hairfield Vault Company until his retirement. David was an avid fisherman and hunter.He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mabel Billotte Anderson of the home; a son, Daniel Anderson, Sr. and wife, Barbara, of Morganton; a daughter, Sandy Collier and husband, Jack, of Harmony, NC; brothers, Carl Anderson of Stow, OH; a sister, Clarissa Winchesin of Allentown, PA; grandchildren, Dawnna Ixmay, Daniel Anderson, Jr., Samuel Anderson, Timothy Anderson, Tracie Perkins, David Carrico and wife, Tiffany, Brandy Dobbs, and Jeremy Cauthen; great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Reece, Starlia Bristol, Felix Berry, Christopher Berry, Bethany Martin, Dakota Anderson, Laurel Anderson, Brent Perkins, Jessica Cauthen, Cameron Cauthen, Destiny Moses, Dillon Moses, Alora Brock, and Westen Brock.In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by brothers, Elmer Anderson and Oscar Anderson; sisters, Dorothy Erickson and Hilma Johnson; and a great-granddaughter, Diana M. Anderson.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2009 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
