David Cook

David Cook, 73, of Morganton, NC, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2026.

Born in Burke County, NC on May 19, 1952, he was the son of the late Clemmie Alvin Cook and Florence Trudy Smith Cook.

David was a member of Walkers Chapel Baptist Church. He loved fishing and being outdoors, and he enjoyed riding around and seeing new places. David loved being around family and friends, and his daughter was his world. He also loved spoiling his dogs and animals.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Katie Cook; siblings, Bobby Gene Cook, Sr. (Kay) and Brenda Cook Brackett; niece, Teresa Cook (Shawn); nephews, Bobby Gene Cook, Jr., Darrell Ray Cook, and Adam Smith (Emily); brother-in-law, Frank Tallent; and a number great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Cook; brother, Johnny Ray Cook (Susan); sister, Merle Tallent; infant-sister, Linda Jane Cook; and brother-in-law, Butch Brackett.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Friday, May 8, 2026 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Danny McNeily and Rev. Keith Fulbright officiating. Burial will follow in Walkers Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sossoman Funeral Home to assist with expenses.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
