Danny M. Cooke, 70, of Morganton, NC, left this world and gained his heavenly wings on Sunday, September 4, 2022.
Born in Burke County, NC on November 4, 1951, he was the son of the late Calvin “Dopey” Junior Cooke and Ruby Lee Hoyle Cooke. Danny was a member of Catawba Valley Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, youth leader, and member of the church security team. In 2016 he retired from NC School for the Deaf after 22 years of service. He served on the board of directors for the Chesterfield Fire Department and was a former president, and he was a veteran of the NC National Guard.
Danny is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Sherry Beach Cooke; sons, Shane Cooke (Stacey) and Jeremy Cooke (Jane); grandchildren to who he was known as “Dit-Daw,” Kylie, Wesley, Thomas, Garrett, Chloe, Corey, and Casey (Ashleigh); great-grandchildren, Shayla, Se’Vel, Azariyah, Keadan, Paisley, Aiden, Callie, Nathan, and Emily; sister, Caroleen “Sissie” Rhoney and Teena Smith (Delane); and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m., Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Catawba Valley Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the church with the Revs. Jesse Lott, David Orders, and Dr. Jeffrey Beach officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the NC National Guard.
