Cynthia “Cindy” Payne, 66, of Newland, NC, peacefully passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025 while surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Wake County, NC on May 25, 1959, she was the daughter of the late Willis Woodlief and Ada Grace Alford Woodlief.
Cindy was a loving “Mama” and “Nana,” and she enjoyed a good yardsale. She was compassionate and dedicated to caring for others, and it showed through her 20+ years of service in healthcare. She not only showed love to her patients, but also to their families. Cindy had a great sense of humor and was loved by everyone who knew her. She always found a way to lighten the mood, even during her hardest battles.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Travis Payne (Megan) and Heather Dale (Travis); grandchildren, Claire Edwards (Landon), Erica Thompkins (Cullen), Aidan Dale, Allie Grace Dale, Harper Anne Dale, Clifton Axyl Payne, and Amos Payne; great-grandson, Oliver Thompkins; brothers, Buddy Woodlief and David Woodlief (Rhonda); sister, Gail Deluca (Ralph); and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to her parents, Cindy was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Lamarr Payne.
A celebration of Cindy’s life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, November 1, 2025 at Jonas Ridge United Methodist Church.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
