Curtis "Butch" Brackett, 55, of Morganton, NC died Sunday, February 5, 2006 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. He was born December 29, 1950 in Rutherford County, NC. He was a son of Jessie Mae Lane Brackett, formerly of Golden Valley and now residing in Shelby, NC, and the late Curtis Hoover Brackett, Sr. Butch attended Smart’s Grove Baptist Church. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and helping others. Curtis was an avid sports fan with a special interest in racing.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Brenda Cook Brackett of the home; children, Adam Smith and wife, Emily of Connelly Springs, NC, Cindy Blayock and husband, Jack of Marion, NC, Tammy Causby and husband, Chuck of Morganton; six grandchildren; a brother, Wayne Brackett and wife, Dianne of Shelby, NC; sisters, Ethel Brackett of Morganton, Patsy Bryan and husband, Mike of Apex, NC, Janie Sanders and husband, Jerry of Forest City, NC; and many more special friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 9, 2006 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Fulbright, Rev. Charles Lewis, and Mr. Tim Bell officiating. Burial will follow at Olive Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Lawndale, NC. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence of a brother-in-law, Bobby Cook, 6928 Casar Rd. in Lawndale.
