Curtis Austin Baker, 21, of Spainhour Rd., Morganton, NC, the Oak Hill Community, died Sunday, March 12, 2006 as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born in Burke County, NC on July 10, 1984 and was a son of Bill Baker, Jr. and his wife, Lisa, and Debbie Bean Crouch and her husband, David, all of Morganton. Curtis was a member of El Bethel Baptist Church, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and all outdoor activities. He was a loving father and son with a tender spirit and a wonderful smile that would brighten the day.

Surviving in addition to his parents, are his children, Anna Smith and Austin Baker, and their mother, Ann Smith, of Morganton; a brother, Brandon Baker, and his daughter, Breanna Baker, of Morganton; grandparents, Peggy Bean, Bill and Kathryn Baker; his great-grandmother, Louise Baker, all of Morganton; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Rev. Ed Bean.

The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at El Bethel Baptist Church with his uncle, Rev. David Bean, Rev. Ron Cooper, and Rev. Beth Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at El Bethel Baptist Church. At other times the family will be at the home of his nannie, Peggy Bean, 162 Stephens Rd., Morganton. Memorial contributions may be made to assist the family with funeral expenses. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
