Clyde Cook, Sr., 87, of Morganton went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville while surrounded by his family.

Born in Drexel, NC on July 20, 1931, he was the son of the late William B. Cook and Addie L. Cook.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, C.D. and Bobby Cook; and 2 sisters, Joyce Pruitt and Betty Roper.

Mr. Cook served a short time in the U.S. Air Force, followed by 2 years in the U.S. Army, 15 months of which he was stationed in Korea.  He worked at Morganton Electric Service for 30 years and retired from Sanders Electric Motor Service in Lenoir.  Clyde enjoyed gardening, yard work, and spending time with his family.

Clyde is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ruth Waters Cook of the home; 5 wonderful children, Clyde Cook, Jr. (Kim), Glenda Sue Watson (A.Z.), Kenneth Lee Cook (Cindy), Tamela Denise Pearson (Howard), and Terry Lorine Blackburn (David); 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; considered Linda Norman Smith a very special part of his family; and will be greatly missed by his very special pets, Ally and Sophie.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The funeral will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, August 6 at Nowlings Chapel Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
