Clara Mae Swink McCurry

Clara Mae Swink McCurry, 90, died Saturday, October 30, 2010, at Burke Hospice Palliative Care Center following a period of declining health. She was born in Georgia on December 20, 1919 and was a daughter of the late Jim and Gertrude Shepherd Swink. In addition to her parents, Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Fred F. McCurry; sons, James, George, and G. W. McCurry; and by a daughter, Barbara Smith.Mrs. McCurry was a retired employee of Drexel-Heritage Furnishings. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother. Clara was an avid flower gardener and also loved animals especially birds and dogs.Surviving are her children, Fred F. McCurry, Jr. of Lenoir, J. P. McCurry of Connelly Springs, Brenda Garner and Shirley Carlisle both of Morganton, Edith Miller of Hickory, Frankie Stanley and Betty Taylor both of Valdese. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, November 1, 2010 at Golden Valley United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. James Taber officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., Monday at Sossoman Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the residence of Shirley Carlisle. Mrs. McCurry’s family expresses sincere appreciation to the staff of Burke Hospice for their loving care.
